Students will investigate the case of Ethel, an old lady who loves her teenage grandchildren, yet can’t help stereotyping teenagers as a potential danger to her when she passes them on the streets. Students will explore why this is, how the mind works and how stereotypes evolved originally to help us avoid threats, but can be detrimental when applied to societal groups in the modern world.
